Turnagain Pass & Hope
Alpine meadows, backcountry ski terrain and a gold-rush village.
Turnagain Pass carries the Seward Highway over the Kenai Mountains at about 1,000 feet. In summer the meadows are thick with wildflowers; in winter it is one of the most popular backcountry ski and snowmachine areas in Southcentral Alaska.
The tiny village of Hope, at the end of the Hope Highway on Turnagain Arm, dates from the 1890s gold rush. It is the northern trailhead for the Resurrection Pass Trail and a quiet base for fishing Resurrection Creek and walking the Gull Rock trail.
