Seward & Kenai Fjords

A working harbor town at the edge of a fjord-cut national park.

Seward sits at the head of Resurrection Bay, 127 miles south of Anchorage at the end of the Seward Highway and the Alaska Railroad. It is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, where glaciers pour off the Harding Icefield into deep, steep-walled fjords.

Day cruises from the small boat harbor head out to Aialik and Northwestern fjords to see tidewater glaciers, humpback whales, orcas, Steller sea lions and puffins. On land, Exit Glacier is the only part of the park reachable by road, and the trail beside it climbs all the way to the icefield.
