Overview
Southcentral is where most Alaskans live and where most trips begin. Anchorage sits on Cook Inlet at the foot of the Chugach Mountains, and within an hour's drive you can be on a glacier, a salmon stream or an alpine ridge.
To the north, the Matanuska and Susitna valleys open toward the Talkeetna Mountains and Denali. To the east, the Chugach curls around Prince William Sound, a maze of tidewater glaciers and quiet bays reached through the Whittier tunnel or from Valdez and Cordova.
