Overview
The Interior is the broad heart of Alaska between the Alaska Range and the Brooks Range, drained by the Yukon and Tanana rivers. Summers are warm and endlessly bright; winters are among the coldest on the continent.
Denali, at 20,310 feet, rises from the Alaska Range on the region's southern edge, and the park road into its wild interior is one of the great wildlife drives in the world. Fairbanks, the region's hub, is a prime base for aurora viewing and gold-rush history.
